In case you’re wondering: old Brighton is way better than New Brighton.
We’ve wanted to visit Brighton, London’s foremost weekend seaside retreat, for a while now. So, braving the decidedly mixed weather, we jumped on a train and were there in just over an hour.
It was so good to see the sea again (try saying that ten times fast), and breathe a bit of fresh air for a change. To be honest, Brighton beach isn’t the greatest – pebbles not sand – but it’s a really cool place, with a brilliant atmosphere. There are lots of beach side bars, restaurants, fish and chip shops, ice cream shops, touristy shops, and, of course, a really big pier.
We had fish and chips on the pier and did a bit of gambling in the 2p machines (suffering a huge loss of about £1 or less). There were a bunch of rollercoasters and a few freaky rides that swing you out over the ocean, but suffice to say it wasn’t for me.
We had a few drinks in the afternoon, enjoying a really good live band, and I had my first sausages-and-mash for tea, and were back in London by 9pm. What a brilliant little day trip.
Brighton pics are here!
