Reaping the benefits of Siem Reap

After rattling through Cambodia on another 12 hour multi bus journey, we were relieved to have ordered another pick up from the bus station from our friendly guesthouse.

Most people are in Siem Reap to see one thing, Angkor Wat, and we were no exception, but the town offers plenty more to make this a pleasant stop for travellers.  Infamous "Pub Street" offers plenty of choices for dining and drinking, there is a wicked swimming pool just outside the city, and the old town area is lined with quirky alleys, restaurants, cafes and gift shops.
In the evening we frequented the night market where we enjoyed a brilliantly cheap massage, and stocked up on street food at the many make shift operations that spring to life when the sun sets.

When we opted for our day of temple trampling we did nothing by halves.  Up at 5am for our tuk tuk tour, we headed to Angkor Wat for sunrise.  We settled in with the hundreds of others who were there with the same thing in mind, and enjoyed exploring these ruins immensely after the sun had risen.  From here we went on to the next most famous, the Bayon, with its multitude of faces, and many others including temples in huge mountains and those overgrown by trees and stumps, until we were all templed out.

We are now off to cross the border and return to Bangkok after four years apart.  Will it have changed and will heavy traffic problems still linger?
