Ho Hum, Vientiane

We had high hopes for Vientiane, the capital of Laos from our guidebook that promised sun baked boulevards, locals playing petanque and riverside bars and restaurants.

Unfortunately we were left a bit disappointed.  Perhaps it is dry season, but we honestly could barely see the Mekong from the river bank, let alone the riverside bars and restaurants.

There is a peculiar Arc de triomphe replica, but the views were mediocre and save for a few wats and temples, there was little to see here.  A sweltering city, we took refuge at a few cafes and bars to while away the days.
