Tubing Baby - Vang Vieng

Vang Vieng is home to the infamous among backpackers tubing route, and not a lot else.  Sure there were kayak tours, hot air balloon rides and canyoning, but we were there for the tubing.

For about £4 you are given an inner tyre tube and a tuk tuk ride 4km up the river.  Left to your own devices to make it back to town, you encounter numerous bars along the river, all trying to entice you in with free shots, cheap buckets, free food, rope swings, mud volleyball and water slides.  Chaos ensues, but you are encouraged to be back in town by 6pm to avoid losing your deposit.

Before lunch, and for those that aren't tubing, VV appears a zombie town.  Bars and restaurants are equipped with cushions made for chilling all day and night and Friends and Family Guy are played on loop at every single place.

While the tubing was a lot of fun, VV was a good place for the tubing experience, but, filled with the drunken and often badly behaved westerners, we didn't feel the need to stay a week.
