Our short stop in Hue was dampened by more rain, literally and
figuratively. A short bus to Da Nang and an amazing train ride along
spectacular coastlines and through swathes of green rice paddies brought
us to Hue in the middle of heavy rain.
It was reasonably straight forward to find a hotel in one of the
backpacker areas and we settled in for the night. The next day took us
to explore the Citadel, the former imperial city comprising temples,
moats, Pavillions, moats, walls and gates etc. An easy way to while
away a rainy afternoon.

There were plenty of tourist boats lining the Perfume River, all plying
for a trip amongst the noticeable lack of tourists. We took one up and
had the boat to ourselves save for a kid on the ground asleep and
picking another up from along the river and dropping them off at a
different point for school. Convenient timing!
We didnt care for Hue too much and unfortunately the prices of an
overnight train meant we were set for another overnight bus to the
nation's capital, Hanoi.
