Gili Trawangan - isle of the kitties

Gili Trawangan, or Gili T as it is affectionately known, is also 'the island of the cats' and the 'party' island , the largest of three small islands off the coast of Lombok.

With no traffic other than horse and carts, bicycles and of course, pedestrians, Gili T is home to beautiful blue waters, amazing snorkelling and a nice backpacker vibe.  Although the influx of visitors have increased resort type development and pushed the prices up, we managed to find a cute wee bungalow with pool just over the road from the sea.

Mornings were spent leisurely over breakfasts of fruit salad, juices, toasted sandwiches, pancakes and omelets, not all at the same time of course, on sun loungers equipped with cats and the ocean lapping nearby.

We hired snorkels, masks and fins one day and were amazed by the reef and thousands of fish, and Si even followed a huge turtle for ages, on the one occasion I was too lazy to go in again!

The sunsets from the north eastern part of the island were wicked, and we took a couple of hours to circumnavigate the whole island one lazy afternoon!

A good spot for rest and relaxation, but not a lot of choice in the budget backpacker fare.  Next stop back on the mainland of Bali was the ferry port town of Padang Bai.
