Bonjour from Paris. Thank goodness for high school french as this is a hard city for a foreigner to warm to at first. Everything is in French! Even all the TV shows. My Wife & Kids is actually a little bit funny in French. A little bit. Fun train ride from London, very quick. Hotel here very close to the Louvre so that is handy and much nicer than London - although still up 5 fricken flights of stairs with no lift! First day visited Notre Dame and Eiffel Tower. Very cool and awesome view from the top although the three hour culmination of queuing at the bottom and for various lifts was not fun. Ordered "deux pain au chocolats" for la petite dejeuner from french patisserie, very satisfying both to eat and to order! Food very expensive here too so salad and a sandwich from the supermarche was dinner.
Paris is really swell – it's just a shame about all the French.
Whereas Thailand and London were very tourist friendly, Paris is a nightmare. Absolutely everything is in French and even their computer keyboards are crazy (i'm struggling to type this – all the buttons are in the wrong place!
I think we're getting used to it (the French that is, not this keyboard), but it was shocking trying to catch a train from the airport. You'd think they would make it easy for you – you're at an international trainstation where no doubt millions of tourists pass through each year! Paris is really cool though. The city is anazing!
Our hostel is much nicer then the one in London but what's with all the stairs? It's exhausting lugging all our bags up five flights of stairs. The view is good although can't see the Eiffel Tower from our room - I thought you could see it from everywhere in Paris? Or have I been watching too many movies? Any movie set in Paris practically has the tower in every freakin scene! The Eiffel Tower was overrated anyway.
