Smile, Laugh, Cry - Let Us

We have seen all sorts of interesting translated signs and spellings on this trip. The above title - the slogan of our beachfront restaurant - no exception.

The worst thing that could possibly dampen (pun intended) a beach holiday is rain. And lots of it. Unfortunately for a couple of days or part thereof we were subjected to sitting in Starbucks drinking Mocha frappes and reading our books. We would soon grow tired of this and move onto a bar to drink beers and cocktails and continue to read our books. Thank goodness the happy hour went from 2pm - 10pm!

One afternoon the rain stopped sufficiently for us to hire jet skis which was absolutely freakin awesome and so much fun. Dined open air under a myriad of fairy lights with live music and a fantastic meal for under $40.

Luckily on our last full day in Samui the sun shone brightly and inflicted major sunburn despite coating ourselves in sunscreen and shading ourselves beachside. It was blissful (at least before the sunburn came) to sit beach side and swim no less than four or five times on the lilo I had a hired for a day. When the monsoon arrived at 3:30pm we retreated to the shack to pity our sunburn and itchy bites and I continued the insights of Jane Eyre. Sad to leave the beach for Chiang Mai but very happy to say goodbye to the cold shower in the shack.

I've had about all I can take of beautiful sunshine, delicious first-class cuisine, gorgeous weather, and drinking ice cold beer on the beach - it's time to get real.

We're leaving the sun drenched Koh Samui spectacle behind us and we're moving back to the city. Gutted!

It's been difficult to find the time to update the blog while we've been just so darn busy. Our last few days in Koh Samui were spent relaxing on the beach with a good book (Skeleton Crew by Stephen King), swimming, and we had a couple of lovely, romantic, moonlit meals - one actually right on the beach.

Jet ski-ing was a real highlight. It was fun being a 'boy racer of the sea' for 20 minutes.

I am looking forward to a warm shower though.
