Ios, the party island

Unfortunately our 3pm ferry crossing to Ios was delayed 5 hours so we arrived in Ios at fricken 1am! Lucky our hostel had a shuttle bus ready and waiting to transport us home to bed.

Ios was an island of beautiful swimming beaches and an awesome nightlife. 'The Village' after 10pm goes off with lots of restaurants, bars, clubs and shops all throughout the narrow streets. Everyone congregates in the main square with a 1 euro beer or a ( 2.50 euro bacardi breezer) to chill out. Late night gyros after a few drinks go down a treat.

We were staying right on Mylopotas beach which was a beautiful sandy beach packed full of people (after 12 once everyone wakes up), eateries and watersports.

Unfortunately the thing to do is hire two sun loungers and an umbrella for 9 euros (18NZD!!!) for the day. But you have to! The water was glorious.

We had an awesome time here having a few drinks beachside and on our balcony with our roomies who were from Quebec. I even bought a glass and a lemon and some bacardi and a straw from the mini market and made some fantastic drinks!

What does a cloud look like again? What's it like when the temperature drops below 25 degrees?

Sorry New Zealand, we've heard that you guys have had it rough recently with a storm or two. We have had so much sunny, hot weather in the Greek islands that it defies belief.

Ios the party island was pretty cool, although Paros was a lot nicer. The Ios village is quiet during the day and absolutely crazy at night, and the beaches are all empty every day until after lunch, when everyone finally gets out of bed. It's cheaper to buy drinks at supermarkets so we did that at night and just loitered around the village.

Relaxing at the beach was great, but it sux to pay so much for the privilege. Still, it was better than sitting on the crappy part of the beach by ourselves, and we had a front row seat from which to view the sea, the passing ferries, and all the pretty girls swimming topless.
